"Literature and the big challenges for modernity", an international conference organized 1-2 June 2022 at the University of Wrocław by Olga Tokarczuk Ex-Center. Academic Research Center in cooperation with Olga Tokarczuk Foundation takes an opportunity to combine the celebration of the jubilee of our Nobel Prize laureate in literature with the survey of state-of-the-art research on her writing and activism.

During the conference, we would like to have a look at the biggest challenges for the contemporary world in the perspective of Olga Tokarczuk’s writing and, vice versa, to launch a discussion about the writing and the social role of the Nobel laureate in light of such issues as the mission and agency of literature, intercultural relations between texts, the identity of a region, tourism and literary education, ecocriticism and the reflection on the condition of animals, corporeality and materiality of (non)human experience, the poetics and politics of affect, collective memory and imagined communities.

The conference will host top international researchers of Olga Tokarczuk’s work from many universities in Poland and abroad.
